Apps That Pay Real Money to Cash App: Most Go Through PayPal
Only Scrambly confirms direct Cash App payouts. Most apps pay via PayPal or a bank. See real hourly pay, stacked fees, scams and the tax rules.
The verdict
- Legit?Yes, but “pays to Cash App” is mostly a marketing label. Of the popular earning apps, Scrambly is the only one we could confirm lists Cash App as a payout option on its own site. Most of the rest pay to PayPal, Venmo or a bank, and you move the money into Cash App yourself.
- Realistic earnings:$0.41 to $2.03 an hour on survey platforms, from a NerdWallet study that Cash App itself cites.
- Payout minimum:$1 to Cash App or PayPal on Scrambly, $5 to PayPal on Swagbucks, $10 on KashKick.
- Payout methods:Cash App directly (Scrambly only). Everything else goes through PayPal, Venmo, a bank transfer or gift cards.
- Time to first cashout:Scrambly says rewards arrive within minutes after an ID check that takes 3 to 4 minutes. That’s Scrambly’s own claim, not a guarantee. UserTesting pays about 14 days after a test.
The cheapest route is a direct payout from the app, then free standard transfers from there. Instant transfers on small balances cost you a percentage every time, and on survey-sized cashouts that adds up fast.
Who actually pays to Cash App (and who doesn’t)
Here’s what each app’s own help pages (or Finder, where noted) say about payout routes:
| App | Pays to Cash App? | Pays to PayPal? | Minimum | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Scrambly | Yes | Yes | $1 (Cash App, PayPal, Visa, Target), $10 bank | 18+, one account per person |
| KashKick | No | Yes, or Venmo | $10 | US residents only, 1 to 3 business days |
| Freecash | No | Yes | $5 to $20 for the first withdrawal, depending on region | First cashout needs a Veriff ID check |
| Swagbucks | No (per Finder) | Yes | $5 (500 SB) | Gift cards also available |
| Branded Surveys | No (per Finder) | Yes | $5 | Also pays by US bank transfer |
| Fetch | No (per Finder) | No | $3 | Gift cards or prepaid Visa only |
| UserTesting | No | Yes | None stated | Paid about 14 days after a test |
- After your first withdrawal, Freecash drops the minimum and doesn’t ask for ID again. Its help page doesn’t list processing times, so we can’t tell you how fast it pays.
- UserTesting payments can take another 24 to 48 hours on PayPal’s side. You have to claim the payment within 30 days or it goes back to UserTesting.
- Cash-prize games (Solitaire Cube, Bingo Cash and similar) show up on lots of “Cash App games” lists. We couldn’t confirm that any of them pay to Cash App directly.
Getting PayPal money into Cash App
If your app only pays to PayPal, this is the route:
- Cash out to PayPal once you pass the app’s minimum.
- Move it from PayPal to your bank. According to PayPal’s fee page, a standard transfer is free. Instant costs 1.75%, with a $0.25 minimum and a $25 maximum.
- Add money to Cash App from that same linked bank.
Step 3 is optional. Once the money is in your bank, you can already spend it. Only move it into Cash App if you actually use the Cash App Card or pay people from Cash App.
What the fees do to a $20 cashout
The fees stack, and most “apps that pay to Cash App” lists never mention it. Cash App’s terms (updated September 11, 2026) put instant transfers out to a linked account at 0.5% to 2.5%, with a minimum of $0.25 to $1 and a $75 cap. The app shows you the exact fee before you confirm. Lots of guides still quote an older, lower range.
Say you earn $20 and want it fast at every step:
- PayPal instant to bank: 1.75% of $20 = $0.35
- Cash App instant out to a linked account later (for example, after a direct Scrambly payout): $0.25 to $1, depending on the rate and minimum Cash App shows you
- Total: $0.60 to $1.35, or 3% to 6.75% of your earnings
Use standard transfers and both steps cost $0. Cash App’s standard transfer takes 1 to 3 business days.
What it really pays per hour
Start from the realistic figure: $0.41 to $2.03 an hour on survey platforms. Count every minute you spend on surveys that disqualify you partway through, because those minutes are part of your hour too.
We assume you do 5 hours of surveys a week and land in the middle of that range, about $1.22 an hour:
- Weekly earnings: 5 × $1.22 = $6.10
- Weekly instant PayPal transfer: 1.75% of $6.10 is $0.11, so the $0.25 minimum applies. That’s about 4% of your pay.
- You keep $5.85, or $1.17 an hour.
- Add a Cash App instant transfer with a $1 minimum and you’re down to $4.85, or $0.97 an hour.
Let the balance build, cash out once a month and use standard transfers, and you keep the full $1.22.
Under 18? Check this first
Cash App offers sponsored teen accounts for ages 13 to 17, and the sponsor has to be at least 15 years older than the teen. The earning apps don’t have to accept teens just because Cash App does. Scrambly’s terms require users to be 18 or older (some review sites still say 16, but the current terms are newer), and many cash-prize games are 18+ as well. Lie about your age and the ID check before your first withdrawal can catch it, and the balance can be forfeited. Teens should start with our breakdown of online survey jobs for students instead.
Your data
Legit apps check who you are before they pay you:
- Freecash runs your first cashout through Veriff.
- Scrambly may ask you to verify your identity, age and location before you withdraw.
- KashKick says ID checks may apply.
An ID check before payout is expected. A survey or “reward” that asks for your SSN, your Cash App PIN or a sign-in code is a scam, and Cash App’s own survey-scam guide flags all three. It also flags a $50+ reward for a short survey and any participation fee.
Complaints worth knowing
About Cash App itself:
- In January 2025 the CFPB ordered Block, the company behind Cash App, to pay up to $120 million in customer redress plus a $55 million penalty, and to fix how it handles fraud.
- In July 2026, 46 attorneys general settled with Block for $45 million. They alleged weak identity checks, years without phone support, and that “Cash App Fridays” exposed users’ $cashtags to scammers.
- Block now has to offer 24/7 support, with a human on the phone at least 13.5 hours a day and on chat at least 18 hours a day.
Account and payout risks:
- Cash App’s terms say scams “may result in the loss of your funds with no recourse.”
- Report an unauthorized transaction within 2 business days and your loss is capped at $50. Report it later and you could lose up to $500.
- Money deposited by ACH is credited provisionally and can be clawed back if the transfer fails.
- Scrambly allows one account per person, can forfeit balances for fraud or abuse, and lets rewards on inactive accounts expire. Cash out regularly.
- UserTesting can’t lift PayPal holds and can cancel payment for tests you don’t finish.
Scams wearing a “pays to Cash App” costume
The Cash App name is a magnet for scammers. Watch for:
- Money “flips”: “send $100, get $1,000 back.”
- Fake payment screenshots.
- Giveaways that charge a “processing fee.”
- “Accidental payment” refund requests.
- Task scams, which the FTC warns often pay you $5 to $20 first to build trust, then demand a deposit, usually in crypto.
The FTC logged 3 million fraud reports and $15.9 billion in reported losses in 2025. Its advice fits every app on this page: never pay to get paid.
Taxes on app earnings
This is general information, not tax advice. Talk to a tax pro about your own situation.
- You owe tax on this income whether or not you get a form.
- Payment apps only send a Form 1099-K when goods-and-services payments go over $20,000 and 200 transactions. The IRS confirms this threshold was restored retroactively. Cash App says personal accounts won’t get a 1099-K from it, but states with lower thresholds can still trigger reporting.
- The threshold for Forms 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC rose to $2,000 for payments made after 2025, up from $600. Older guides still quote $600.
- Self-employment tax kicks in once your net self-employment earnings reach $400.
- Cash-prize game winnings are fully taxable.
If you sell goods or services, for example flipping thrift store finds, Cash App started piloting “Earn in P2P” in September 2026. It lets select sole proprietors take those payments into a personal account with no fees. Labeling business payments as “personal” to dodge reporting breaks Cash App’s terms.
Is Cash App Green worth it here?
Probably not for survey money. Green unlocks 3.5% APY on savings (instead of 1.5%) and $0 fees at in-network ATMs. To qualify in a given month, you need $300+ in paycheck, pension or government benefit deposits, or $500+ in spending with the Cash App Card or Cash App Pay. Money you add from your bank doesn’t count, so app earnings routed through PayPal won’t get you there.
Better alternatives
- If you just want cash in your bank, Branded Surveys pays straight to a US bank account with a $5 minimum, so there’s no middle step.
- If you already use Venmo, KashKick pays to Venmo or PayPal once you reach $10, with processing in 1 to 3 business days.
- If you can wait for bigger payments, UserTesting pays to PayPal about 14 days after each test.
Quick answers
Does Swagbucks pay to Cash App? According to Finder, no. It pays to PayPal (from $5) or in gift cards, and you’d move the money into Cash App yourself.
Will Cash App send me a 1099 for app earnings? Not on a personal account, Cash App says. You still have to report the income.
Can a teen with a sponsored Cash App account use Scrambly? No. Scrambly’s terms require you to be 18+.
Is Cash App’s instant transfer worth it? Rarely on small balances. The minimum fee can take 5% or more of a $20 cashout, while the standard transfer is free and takes 1 to 3 business days.
Use it if, skip it if
Use it if
- You’re 18+ and want Scrambly’s $1 Cash App minimum for small, frequent cashouts.
- You already spend from the Cash App Card and don’t mind waiting on free standard transfers.
- You check every withdrawal fee in the app before you hit confirm.
Skip it if
- Your earnings already land in your bank. Adding Cash App just adds another step.
- You’re under 18 and hoping a sponsored account gets you into apps that require adults.
- An “app” wants a fee, a deposit or your PIN before it pays you.
